Our Story
Meridian Equestrian Center was founded with a simple vision: to create a place where horses and people can thrive together.
While our journey as Meridian Equestrian Center began in 2021, our connection to horses and the Whatcom County equestrian community stretches back decades. We grew up in Lynden and were among the original members of the Whatcom County Pony Club, known today as Kulshan Ridge Pony Club, and horses have been at the center of our lives for generations.
After spending more than 20 years living, riding, and teaching at equestrian facilities across the country, our family returned home to Whatcom County with a dream of building something special. We wanted to combine the very best practices we had encountered throughout our careers with the peaceful beauty of the Pacific Northwest to create a center dedicated to education, equine welfare, and community.
The first step was the creation of North Cascades Equus, which began with a single lesson horse, King's Gray Colonel. Shortly thereafter, we purchased the property that would become Meridian Equestrian Center—formerly known as Free Wind Farm, a beloved local landmark with a rich equestrian history. Over the past four years, we have invested into restoring and revitalizing the property. From extensive building renovations to major improvements throughout the grounds, our goal has been to honor the farm’s legacy while creating a modern, welcoming environment for horses, riders, and families.
Today, Meridian Equestrian Center is home to nearly 30 horses and a variety of farm animals that make our facility unique. Four generations of our family are actively involved in the daily life of the farm, helping to create a culture built on kindness, respect, and a genuine love of animals.
We are proud to serve as the home of the Kulshan Ridge Pony Club Riding Center and Meridian Veterinary Services, including an on-site veterinary clinic. Our horses play an essential role in educating and inspiring our community, whether through riding opportunities, horsemanship education, therapy programs, or simply by sharing the joy that horses bring to our lives.
At the heart of everything we do is a commitment to equine welfare. We believe education is one of the most powerful tools for improving the lives of horses, both locally and beyond. By helping riders develop strong horsemanship skills and a deeper understanding of horse care, we hope to contribute to a better future for horses everywhere.
None of this would have been possible without the support of our friends, clients, sponsors, volunteers, and community partners. Their encouragement, trust, and belief in our mission have helped shape Meridian Equestrian Center into the place it is today.
Whether you are visiting for the first time, considering a horse lease, exploring sponsorship opportunities, or looking to become part of our equestrian community, we invite you to join us in creating a place where horses and people can learn, grow, and flourish together.
